Jackie Callahan Parente has worked with words and the media that convey them
for well over twenty years. She has demonstrated her abilities in such varied
areas as insurance, publishing, computer consulting, and editorial consulting
work.
TOOLS OF THE TRADE
While working with words, Jackie has become adept with the computer programs
that manipulate those words. She is as comfortable with a keyboard and mouse
as she is with a style manual and dictionary. She has worked extensively with
both Mac- and PC-based computer systems and is familiar with most word
processing, spreadsheet, presentation, help authoring, and page layout programs. Using
the latest technological tools, such as Word®,
FrameMaker®,
PageMaker®, RoboHelp®
and
Acrobat®, she will prepare your material either on disk or

THE BUSINESS OF COMMUNICATION
Jackie worked as both an employee of and an independent consultant to major
insurance companies for more than ten years. While in the insurance
industry, she analyzed underwriting policies and office procedures. As a result,
she developed, wrote, or edited a wide variety of inter- and intra-company
material - from training texts and procedural instructions to statistical
reports and underwriting manuals.
FROM POLICIES TO PUBLISHING
For 10+ years, she was both editor and managing editor for a national publishing
company. As editor of the calendar line, her language skills received a
constant workout as she converted rough manuscripts to final text. While wearing
the managing editor's hat, she brought together the editorial, design, and
production aspects of a publication and saw it printed accurately, attractively,
on time, and within budget.
